Brief introduction of Mechanical Engineering Department

The Mechanical Engineering Department was founded in 1965. The university was named National Kaohsiung Institute of Technology also known as NKIT and was established in 1963, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering was founded at NKIT in 1998. Already has 50 years history. So far its system includes PHD、M.S. degree, continuing education of M.S degree, college.  (plus the program with present industries and vocational high school), continuing education of college, continuing education of college for two years. Alumnus from our department have reached ten thousand people and is still counting. The Mechanical Engineering Department has educated many professionals to in industry and promoted Taiwan industry of Mechanical Engineering significantly. Our education goal is to cultivate and educate professionals with well-practical techniques. Students will acquire the need of mechanical design, controlling of producing automation, precision manufacturing、product inspection、operating and maintaining precision mechanic.
Due to advocating inspirational teaching, we also have technology of life style program, knowledge of humanities, laws, and relevant knowledge. At the same time, we invite experts from different fields to give lecture, enhance the vision of student’s learning. Teaching them to combine basic with advanced in lectures and encouraging them to participate in stimulation programs. The student will become professionals in the future in different fields. 

■ Features & Fields in Researches

      1. College projects in practice are to encourage students to think outside the box and think independently. The department not only has the profession certifications, with outside school projects, planning feature programs, reaching the goal of industry’s necessity. But professors devote themselves in lecturing students with full participation and enthusiasm.

2. Graduate School program is partly divided into designing & manufacturing, optical machine control and material and energy. In addition to enhancing the profession, encouraging research team work, teachers endeavor in the emerging significant industry, such as precision mechanic, micro- nanotechnology, optical machine. The project program discussion invites experts from new fields, using clear ways to make students understand.

3. Our school was evaluated to found Precision Machinery Research & Development Center, which is directed by Mechanical Engineering Department.

1. Mechanical Engineering Department hold certification exams in all field and helps students increase their own abilities.

2. Host academic conference and business visits, in order to enhance research cooperation with business.

3. Our professors form a variety of teams, which specialize in different features.

   (3) Precision Machinery professional human resource project     
   (4) Application of piezoelectric material developments and researches
   (5) three-dimensional non-contact control panel study         
   (6) Rapid precision micro fabrication study
   (7) Film element design and manufacturing                      
   (8) Education Project of national science council Tainan- Lujhu Science Park

■ Industry-university cooperative research project features & results

      Encourage educators to study innovation and development. Our department has gained 77 product patent within four years. Recently professors from our department combine cooperative research project result and has twenty four courses.

■ Future hope

      Cultivate precision machinery, electronics, micro / nanotechnology capabilities of machinery pragmatic professionals
(1)Ability to carry out the physical and chemical , mechanical design, mechanical manufacturing , energy and heat , system integration and control, micro / nano- systems and materials analysis
(2) Ability to be observant and practical, know how to collaborate and self study.
(3) Ability to know how to communicate, and have a worldwide vision.
